1978 Renault 30 TS 2.7 V6 petrol from Norway

Summary:

French luxury with easy to fix problems

Faults:

Rebuilt carburetors.

Rebuilt distributor.

Various electric gremlins.

Replaced part of the engine bay wiring.

Several grounding problems.

General Comments:

Bought it from the local doctor who used it as his everyday transport. Extremely well taken care of, he had a thick wad of receipts from the local Renault dealer and other garages.

Regularly rust proofing, washing and waxing, so a 70ies Renault that was 100% rust free, believe it or not.

Real French luxury, pretty fast and beautiful to drive, performance and handling close to the BMW 525 but at a lower price.

He sold it because it didn't run properly, and the dealer didn't find anything conclusive even after several "fixes". So he simply gave up and sold it cheaply. I then spent one day fixing it, then sold it for twice the price after some months.

Carburetors worn and an internal gasket in the carburetor broken. Distributor didn't advance properly. Also there were grounding problems.

Replaced several wires.

1981 Renault 30 TX 2.5 Injection turbo V6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fast, comfortable, but really for an enthusiast

Faults:

Turbo water supply hoses.

Cams excessively worn.

Big-end failure.

General Comments:

Despite its problems, I have to say I still love this car as it was pioneering in its day. It has digital electronic cruise control, digital wiper control and numerous other innovative electronics, which, on other vehicles, were unheard of in 1981. You do need to be mechanically minded to own one though!
