1979 Renault 5 Lecar basic from North America

Summary:

A cheap reliable commuter

Faults:

Nothing so far.

General Comments:

Great little commuter. Seats 4, revs high, high mileage per gallon, easy to maintain, good urban ride.

Just a little noisy, but so cute!

My $19.000 Ford Exploder went through all the recalls, 5 transmissions and one couple converter within six months. My $700 Renault already went through 4000 miles without blinking.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I had a 1980 Renault 5 (LeCar). It was cute and we had it 5 years until we just out grew it. It was a great urban commuter. No problems. I think we put 45,000 miles on it. Although I didn't feel real safe in this car, I couldn't get enough of the comfort that the French put into the seats and driving position. My Harley has more horsepower than that 55 hp 1300 cc motor, but it was totally reliable.

What a hoot!

Bill.
