Hi all. I have a 1992 K reg Renault Clio. I have a problem with my sun roof; it keeps on leaking and it's really doing my head in. I've tried sealant from Halfords; only cost £4.94, but every time it rains I am outside all the time sitting in my car looking for leaks. It's really annoying because it's starting to stain my seats. Anyone know how to solve this problem and make it stop for good please thank you.

I too have a Renault Clio, and every time it rains I get drenched; it drips and spits water all over me and the front seat passenger. The rear right footwell is about 2" deep in water also.

Tried everything - nothing works - Oh except driving with an umbrella open inside the car!

I run two Clio's, no problems with the 1998 model, but a leaking sun roof on the 2002 version; it seems the curse can strike any model of any year! Sealant kept out the rain for 3 weeks. I suppose that if I'm stupid enough to buy french cars I deserve all I get.

I'm told that it could be blocked drains (channels that run from the corners of the sun roof) ; that's my next job. Watch out for further postings.

Goodbye my WET Clio friends.

I have had an N reg clio from new; only 33,000 miles on the clock, but after the downpours of the winter, I noticed water coming out of the manual sun roof mechanism.

I sealed it around the area where the outer plastic frame meets the roof, and it seemed to work. Until the last week and the torrential downpours we have had. Well I turned a corner and got soaked. If it ever stops raining, the sealant gun will be out again.

You'll never guess the problem I got!!! 2 dr W REG RENAULT CLIO 1.2 drivers foot well is about an inch deep in water, have traced it to the sun roof eventually, but only by sitting inside it in a storm. lol. before I realised the fault I bought a Renault grand scenic (need room for kids) and just found water in the spare wheel compartment of that. *sniff* *sniff*.

Hi folks, I also had a leaky aireal thingy, after sealing round the top of the window-screen and aireal with just a silicone gun the leaks have now stopped :o) but I am having terrible trouble with my immobiliser!! I'm not sure if it's the key fob (Which sounds broken inside when you rattle it) or what, I have read other threads on here and it seems to be a common problem. How would I resolve this and what questions do I ask the garage to get it repaired.

So its not just my Clio then? My garage fix worked for a while (sealant on outside of sunroof plastic frame) but problem on my 98 diesel got much worse after fitting a roof rack. As the roof is so weak it flexes, does horrible things to the sunroof, and water p****s in. such a shame because otherwise the car is a beauty.

Scrap the car and start from the beginning. The key points are: *no renault and *no sunroof.

I too have a leaky clio diamonique, 52 reg, 1.2 litre. A soggy bottom is not a good look! I have to sit on bin bags (as the seats get soaked) whenever there is a downpour. One Renault garage has quoted £225 to give the car a 'water test' and then they will repair it which is included in the £225; however, any parts will need to be added! Although, having read other comments on this site, a repair doesn't always seem to be the answer to our problems! This sounds like another job for a watchdog! Watch this space!

Re the leaking sun roof on the Clio. Yes I am another member of the club...

Blocked drains as mentioned by a previous writer appears to sound sensible. Where are the drain holes and where does the pipe run to?

Has anyone found that parking the car on a slope (yes, slope - not cliff edge) makes any difference to the rate of filling?

Chris.

I have a clio 1.5dci 02 plate, I have a leak from the sunroof, it leaks on to my passenger seat as it drips from the roof, I have had the pipes drained and checked, I have had the seal replaced and I have tried putting silicon seal round the edge, no help, as soon as it pours it gets wet, I will try the ariel thing, but I'm not sure this will ever fix...

Aamar.

As a previous contributor I thought I should update all my fellow WET Clio owners. It is impossible to locate the drain holes even if the rubber seal around the sun roof is removed; do not try this unless you have plenty of time to waste.

I decided to cut my losses and traded the car in; a Renault dealer told me that he had never heard of the problem!!!

My advice is to get rid if you can afford it.

98 panache driver, my car has an interesting feature, you get a lovely cooling jet of fresh water when you take a left turn after a storm. its like it knows exactly where to squirt to create the most convincing stain! did not know this was such a common fault!

Got the car recently from a couple that kept it garaged and didn't have this problem. started to have problems with the immobilizer so I took a look at the seal and noticed it had come loose on the drivers side. pushed it back in again and thought I had cracked it, but next big storm lo and behold. decided to waterproof imob if I couldnt fix the leak. roof carpet is starting to stain a little, stupid renault. has no one found a permanant solution to stopping this leak? was considering gaffering the whole thing; don't really use it much anyway, but that will look awful.

Gaffer tape is the only solution. I prefer to stay dry.
