1994 Renault Espace RT 2.1 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very good, top draw

Faults:

Head gasket has just gone, drive shaft on 1 side, driver's seat has worn, 2 rear springs broke, pads & discs replaced, central locking not working.

General Comments:

For 248,000+ I think it's great, it just keeps going, (until the head gasket went).

It's been to France, LeMans x3, around the UK, bloody brilliant, comfortable & reliable.

1994 Renault Espace Alize 2.1 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Extremely reliable and adaptable family car

Faults:

Radiator failed at 75,000m.

Cassette/radio failed - replaced with a new Sony CD/radio for £100.

New exhaust at 80,000m.

General Comments:

Extremely reliable and adaptable family car, that has never failed to start, never broken down and takes us to France every year without a problem.

Changed cam-belt at 45,000m and change oil and filters every 5,000m. Still runs like new and is still on the original clutch, battery, engine, gearbox, disks etc..

However, when fully loaded with 7 people the car could do with more power, particularly when the A/C is on, which seems to sap a lot of power.

A fair bit of body roll in corners, but not uncomfortable.

Expensive!!

General Comments:

Now have 75,000 miles with few problems other than exhaust.

Comfortable and economic for engine size.

1994 Renault Espace RT 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Exhaust rear box replaced at 12k service (dealer recall?).

One of the radiator fans stopped working (replaced at 36k service).

General Comments:

This was a company car I had from new to 3yrs / 48k miles. Economical (ave 28mpg); very comfortable and very versatile. Reliability was fine on mine, though some colleagues experienced more problems than I did (electrical and gearbox). Acceleration was adequate, but the surprising thing was that it didn't suffer much by being fully loaded (5 adults + 2 kids). A good cruiser, reasonably quiet and totally rattle free. Loved it!

1994 Renault Espace RT 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Tyre wear relatively high.

Fuel gauge gave up 15 months ago (I've not had it replaced due to ridiculous quoted cost of new unit)

Rear exhaust box fell off on M1 without any prior warning.

Cat failed at 18 months ... replaced under warranty.

General Comments:

Very comfortable car for long distances on the motorway.

Plenty of room for family of 3 plus luggage on holiday.

Left in the street overnight but starts first time every time.

1994 Renault Espace RT 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Split driveshaft gaiter, both exhausts gone at 26,000, one rear shocker, rear suspension bush.

General Comments:

Generally very reliable and comfy engine, relatively thirsty and stands up well to the worst children can do to car interior.
