1997 Renault Scenic 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Rattle in driver door from new.

Exhaust back box gone within first year.

Engine "missing" especially when going down gears.

Heat shield keeps coming against exhaust causing loud rattling noise

Wind causes annoying whistle on outside wing mirror.

General Comments:

Although there are many things I like about the car e.g. remote central locking, satellite control radio, general comfort etc. I would not buy another because of the problems listed above. I do not think this car will stand the test of time.

1997 Renault Scenic RT 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Not much.

Creaking noise when pulling on handbrake since new. Not fully fixed at service.

Heat shield on exhaust bent twice after hitting floods at speed. Then exhaust knocks. Got underneath and bent it away from exhaust myself.

Seats starting to rattle.

General Comments:

Remarkable design. Very roomy and versatile for length. Have flitted my kids to University in it. They think it is ugly and has no street-cred but it swallows their kit.

Good fuel economy 40-45 in country driving. Sensitive to cross winds.

Handles surprisingly well for a high vehicle. Good Picnic car.

The Megane is the best selling car in Scotland. The Scenic variant accounts for over 40% of the sales.

Soon all the other manufacturers will copy this concept.

1997 Renault Scenic 1.6e petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

None in 8 months.

General Comments:

This is the most versatile car I've ever owned. A kids taxi one minute - a bike carrier the next - a removal van the next! The kids love all the little extras like the airline style trays and footlockers. Nice to see a car that has been put together with a little thought for a change.

1997 Renault Scenic 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Minor problem on brake warning light.

Too early to comment on reliability etc.

General Comments:

Fuel economy averaging around 49 mpg, Clio was just over 50 mpg.

Been liked by everyone who has been in the car so far.
