1981 Rolls Royce Silver Spur from North America - Comments

"Breathtaking"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Ignition Module failed and was replaced at 53000.

Rear Hydraulic Shocks replaced at 53000.

Upon purchase I had the brakes redone and the engine and transmission flushed.

General comments?

This is a Rolls Royce.

The comfort and appointments are exactly as one would expect out of this magnificent engineering marvel.

The dashboard and controls are understated and sparse, but fully control all comfort and driving needs.

The quiet smooth "wistfull" ride has to be experienced to be understood.

The feeling inside the cabin at 20 mph, versus the feeling at 70 mph is the same, other than the trees go by faster.

The most impressive experience is when accelerating from a full stop. The front of the car rises up like a massive bull and your body is firmly pulled back into the perfect seats, and the image in the rear view mirror were those whom had once shared the same piece of tarmac...

Though the Silver Spur has minor design faults, it is still the most prestigious and luxurious car of its period (1980-1998). To drive a Spur is an extraordinary pleasure and privilege.

Is it better than my '84 Skoda Estelle?

And all for the price of a new Kia!

Sorry, maybe I'm just ignorant, but what the heck is a "Skoda Estelle?"

James,

The Skoda Estelle is/was a car made by Skoda.

Skoda is now a Czechoslovakian company owned by Volkswagen, but before they bought it, way back in the 70s/80s, they made a rear-engined air-cooled car assembled by convicts and it was crap.

Skoda now make good cars.

So the author of the Skoda comment was probably just making a little joke.

Thanks for clearing that up, I'd never heard of, or seen one around before, but that's not surprising, considering it isn't an American car.
