2001 Rover - Austin 25 I.s 1.4 from UK and Ireland

The worst car I have owned.!!

Brake Caliper kept catching the day I picked it up.

Needed a new engine after 900 miles due to Strange Engine noise.

Car broke down 10mins after driving the car away from the dealer with new engine in.

Third engine put in, reason being that they could not find the fault with the second engine.

Tappet Noise from third engine.

General Comments:

Big car for the money.

A nice car to drive, but has a dated interior.

That's about it the rest is bad.

Rover really need to sort reliability issues out to compete with the competition of other manufacturers.

You are obviously talking rubbish. You must be the ONLY person in the world to go to a dealer and get two other engines put into a car! Do me a favour!! They just don't 'swap an engine' because of a funny noise. Get real!

My family has been around cars for years, my father has had two Lotus Elans, and a Porsche 911 and even he thinks that the 25 not only looks good, but has punchy performance. (His friend has a 103 PS).

2001 Rover - Austin 25 iE 2.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

This car will shock most GTi's as it looks plain, but has an excess of midrange that is very usable

General Comments:

The engine is not the quietest or smoothest diesel on the market, but the torque and power leave most others standing.

The handling feels firm at first, but is not a problem as it handles well.

The interior comfort is fairly good except the headroom, if you are over 6 foot you may have to tilt the seat further back than normal to avoid the roof.

Good high driving position and excellent all round visibility.

2001 Rover - Austin 25 il Aircon 1.6 from UK and Ireland

A lot of car for a little money

The driver's door would not open.

Windscreen wipers needed adjusting.

General Comments:

The 2 minor problems I have had with the car were fixed in less than an hour after the dealer was informed.

Overall a great little car.

On the motorway you get little road noise.

The only little niggles are some creaking from the dashboard for no apparent reason, and a crackly rear speaker.

2001 Rover - Austin 25 GTi 1.8 VVC from UK and Ireland

Understated GTI

Loose nut fell off linkage to gearbox at 900 miles - which left me with no gears and stranded. No further problems yet.

Dealer service fine - rectified the problem in half a day.

General Comments:

Very quick (145bhp) and handles well due to uprated suspension and standard 16inch low profile tyres.

The trade off is a very firm ride - both hands on the wheel if the road is slightly bumpy!

Half Leather seats are nice, so is the air conditioning.

Terrible stereo - for the top of the range 25. Couldn't Rover get some more money from the corporate wallet!

Rare car now as it is not being made (only in production for approx 10-12 months I think) due to the MGF 25 models replacing it (some will be quick however some will just look quick!)

De-badged as I don't want to race with everyone. The advantadge is (except for the 16" tires) it is MUCH nippier than it looks.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
