1978 Rover - Austin Princess HL 2.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Clutch (100K) and other normal wear and tear items, Headlamp switch only failure, otherwise reliable over last 60K.

Rust on back/bottom corners of rear doors and trim panels. Better than my 9 year old Rover 820.

General Comments:

6 Cylinder engine excellent, very smooth, but thirsty when used hard (down to 15mpg, normally around 25-30). Regular servicing essential, twin carbs are hard to balance.

Excellent ride, reasonable handling. Quiet. Lots of space.

Very durable well made car, (this one must have been built mid-week) and much better than reputation.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

These cars never had 6 cylinder engines - only the 4 cylinder O-series engine.

WRONG. The Princess 2200 had a transverse 6 cylinder engine with twin SUs.

Which six cylinder engine was it? I have worked on one of these cars and I didn't think there was enough room in there for a straight six to be installed.
