1994 SAAB 900 S 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Safe, secure, comfy and discrete

Faults:

There is some rust and poor quality repairs to the off side rear arch; looks unsightly.

There is some wear to the driver's seat, but then again, she has 126k miles on her!

Warning lights for the gear box and ABS come on occasionally. Just switch the car off, and they don't return when you restart the car.

Thirsty, especially when in sport mode and when I give it some welly. Averages 31 mpg.

General Comments:

I've always had a soft spot for these cars; I like the looks and the SAAB'ness. Not a BMW!!

This car is supremely comfortable, everything is to hand and appears to have held up well; doesn't feel like a car as old as it is.

The heated seats are lovely, relaxing to drive. This is the first automatic I've ever had. Am now converted.

The car is not perfect, it is well into its dotage, and if human, would be able to vote!

It came with a Saab service history to 89k, and loads of receipts and all the old MoT certificates to help reassure me about the mileage. It was taxed and has an MoT until November 12. All for the princely sum of £190! After I type this, the thing will probably self destruct.

1994 SAAB 900 S 2.3 petrol non turbo from Israel

Summary:

Best car I ever owned! Spacious, fast, safe

Faults:

Replaced: all the sensors, gearbox, gear mechanism, clutch, radiator fan, electrical wiring (all), hatch door pistons (arms), shock absorbers, electrical antenna, all the hoses.

General Comments:

I got it for cheap from an elderly man, who bought it from a friend, another elderly person, whom always had the car serviced at the main dealership. What a rip-off! I blame all my problems and money spending on the dealership. They probably took advantage that the old dudes didn't know what they were paying for, and how to check it!!!

Original parts are expensive in Israel, so get them online! Once you replaced something, it won't fail you again!

1994 SAAB 900 S 2.0 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Reliable, solid 368,000 k's and still running strong

Faults:

Nothing at all except a bulb blew in the right rear tail light last year. I can't get over the amazing quality, solidity and reliability of this vehicle.

General Comments:

It now being 2011. I have owned this car for 11 years. As I do drive quite a distance daily, this is the perfect car for this job. It has never let me down, and is a very comfortable smooth ride, with great handling and a bit of power when you need it.

Since I have owned this vehicle, I have put 278,000 k's on the clock, and nothing has gone wrong except for the bulb in the taillight, which is listed above. I am just extremely impressed. Thank you Saab. I think this vehicle still has a lot of life in it, and when the day comes, it will be replaced by a later model.

1994 SAAB 900 SE Turbo Coupé 2.0 turbo from Portugal

Summary:

I'm very happy with my SAAB

Faults:

Nothing. I have had the 900 for a year, and I bought it from a senior citizen that didn't use it much. The car was new! With all maintenance on schedule at a Saab dealer. I did 4000 Km in 1 year; basically it's my 2nd car.

General Comments:

Good build for the time it was built; it is 16 years old now.

Powerful engine and fast response, but in my opinion, it's a car to cruise in, not to drive fast on sharp and tight roads, where it can be scary.

It has also a big boot; as big as some estates.

Update:

Now with 112.000Km, nothing wrong has happened.

Just replaced the rear tires and the battery.

The fuel consumption, the best I can do is 9.8 Liters/100Km, but I do very short trips with it, 20Km max. On long trips it goes down to 7L/100Kms.

Great car!
