1987 Seat Ibiza Cupra Sport 16v 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Must be driven to be understood

Faults:

Oil sump plug fell out. However this was no fault of the car, just the mechanic who didn't tighten it properly when serviced.

General Comments:

This car has excellent handling, is pretty quick and has a comfortable ride.

However the dash is a bit dull unlike the Spanish weather um..

My colour is kiwi yellow, so you wouldn't exactly miss it if you forgot where you left it in an extremely large car park.

1987 Seat Ibiza GLX 1.5 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Generally a good reasonably low priced performance hatch

Faults:

Major gearbox oil leak needing serious repairs.

Oil leak in the distributor.

Driver's electric window failed.

Carburettor needed an overhaul.

General Comments:

This car is a great performing car that is quite happy to cruise at 140 kmh.

It prefers to be driven on a long tour rather than around the city, and loves the open road.

The build quality is only fair and it suffers from numerous trim creaks. The cabin is superbly comfortable, and the seats offer great support.

The suspension is rather soft yet it can be thrown around corners with moderate body roll. The Porsche designed engine offers heaps of torque throughout the rev range and can be skidded up in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears.

1987 Seat Ibiza GLX 1.5 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Glad when I acquired the newer shape in 1997, that never let me down

Faults:

Central locking never worked.

'Lumpy' tickover, still after new plugs filters, tuning etc.

Passenger electric window took nearly 45 seconds to go up, compared to 5 on the driver's side.

Sunroof leaked.

Door lock barrel failed (needed 75p part to fix in the end).

Chaffed tyres all the time, despite the tracking being spot on.

Exhaust blew.

Rear window washer failed.

Boot leaked, filled up with water.

Suspension saggy.

Brakes dismal, want more?

General Comments:

Looked good, that's all!!!

1987 Seat Ibiza GLX 1.5 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good runaround

Faults:

Electronic speedo sender failed - £70 to replace, exhaust, rear washer, clutch, passenger e/window dodgy!

General Comments:

Not too bad on the speed side, 0-60 in about 13 secs, drinks lots of pertol, looks nice with the alloys. Not as good as a mark 2 Ibiza!

1987 Seat Ibiza GL 2D 1.5l from Finland

Faults:

Some minor rust problems.

General Comments:

A great car, my car is tuned up a bit and it goes 0-100km/h in 8.8 seconds... I've had no real problems with the car, and I've driven 158000 kilometres with it. So beat that.

1987 Seat Ibiza Designer 1.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Bad Rust along door sills, drivers side headlight failed SIX TIMES in 14 months, booming suspension, rattles and squeaks from the interior, parcel shelf didn't fit, switchgear worked when it wanted to and the damn thing disliked starting in the cold/wet.

General Comments:

I couldn't wait to get rid of the thing. The engine was good, but had to be worked hard to get going. The automatic choke was adjusted four times by the dealer and still the car used to stall at traffic lights in the mornings. I hear that new Seats are better, but it will be a cold month in Hell before I try one.
