1971 Simca 1303 S 1.3 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An enormous pile of excrement

Faults:

The brakes used to lock up regularly for no apparent reason.

Seemingly never ending hydraulic fluid leaks.

Dreadful starting problems.

Oil leaks.

General Comments:

This was my first car and possibly my worst experience with a car to date, and if you ever get a chance to buy one, for God's sake don't!

Handbrake in the dashboard never held the car on any kind of incline at all.

Slower than slow, copious amounts of fumes pumped out the exhaust all the time, handling virtually non existent.

When the brakes did work, I had to constantly pump them and the clutch to get any feel at all in the pedal.

No matter what I did to the engine, it never ran right and it just gobbled parts relentlessly.

Fuel consumption... huge... just piddled it away, and considering how small the engine was, quite a remarkable feat.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I guess no one drives around in a Simca 1300 nowadays, so its actually an abandoned classic. Take care of these if you find one. Driving it as a classic and it last longer.

Oh boy, my first car. It was only a few years old, and just $150! A front wheel had already fallen off, should have been a warning, but it was so cheap. I disagree with the other fellow, it was actually a small pile of poop. A few years later I bought a VW Dasher! A larger pile of really smell poop indeed. My worst cars.
