2000 Skoda Octavia GLX 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Economical, reasonable comfort, powerful, and cheap to run

Faults:

Window mechanisms.

Dash clocks failed.

Interior light.

Sump from small rock (which every other car went out over except mine).

General Comments:

Top class fuel economy; 55+mpg on a bad day.

I have changed all the brakes, and 4 shocks, which is not a problem; these are servicing parts.

Boot is huge.

The seat adjustment is very hard to get right; it's either too far away or too close.

It's a 90bhp version, but drop it to 4th and we are away. Overtaking is never a problem, the engine runs sweet, the gearbox is good, but when dropping to 2nd, it groans sometimes; no idea why.

Brilliant car. I do 600 miles a week, and not a flinch outta it.

1.9 TDi was one of the best engines ever from Skoda/VW.

2000 Skoda Octavia GLXi 1.6 gasoline from Israel

Summary:

Improved Volkswagen

Faults:

Rear window clip broke down, so the window could not go back up - I fixed it myself, and it's been working perfect for 5 years already.

Ceiling upholstery fell down (after 10 years!!!)

Air conditioning foam sealant flows from the vents.

A/T is slipping sometimes, and sometimes a knock is felt between the gears.

General Comments:

All the car is original!!! Nothing has changed yet.

Very reliable and solid car, very comfortable.

Low fuel consumption; 8.2L/100km average - the car weighs 1400 kilos empty.

VERY big trunk - 550 liters.

Actually a Volkswagen, but much better, and much more reliable, comfortable and cheaper.

I have a Skoda Octavia -00. I was wondering about the fuel consumption? My Octavia (combi-model) consumes only 6,5-7,0 city/highway driving, with no load. How can you make it up to 8,5 liters? Automatic car?... I drive a manual shift model.

The 10 years I've owned it, have been just great! NO PROBLEMS AT ALL! The service book is full, all service done. It's a reliable friend of mine, I will not change this car until she's finished for good.. my best friend (just bought new seat covers to cheer her up a bit.) There's no rust to be found either. Car inspection... clean papers every year! I live in Sweden.. so we have summer, winter, spring and autumn.. all weather types.. and she's just movin' on.

2000 Skoda Octavia GLX TDI 1.9 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Strong reliable cheap work horse

Faults:

I bought this car second hand.

Haven't had one spot of trouble except the usual wear and tear of replacing brake shoes and discs, which both were original from new. Rear brake shoes are still untouched; barely any wear.

General Comments:

I have the 90bhp version, which is quite slow, but it gets me where I wanna go for astonishingly low diesel costs. 54 miles to the gallon doing 80mph. Can even get more of you're not heavy footed.

Everything seems like good quality; good heavy doors, and a smooth ride.

2000 Skoda Octavia SLX TDi turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very good car, but the rear space lets it down

Faults:

MAF sensor needs replacing due to flat spots.

Had to have both front springs replaced.

Rear electric window regulator needs replacing; window will not operate and keeps creeping down.

Radio reception worse I have ever known.

Without air con on, the windows mist up instantly.

General Comments:

Very economical. Should improve even more when MAF sensor replaced.

Feels quicker than the Audi A4 TDi it replaced.

Huge boot.

Rear very cramped with the front seats fully back. My two year old Daughter just fits behind me in a booster sea. Cannot fit a child seat behind my seat.

Would gladly trade boot space for a few more inches of rear leg room.

If being used for a family car, would consider a 2004 on, as it has more rear space, or a Superb.

It's now December 08, front passenger window regulator failed, temp sensor has failed, climate control only blows out hot or cold air, nothing in between.

Front suspension creaks, some times glow plug light will not go out.

Idle speed sometimes raises to about 1200rpm.

Not as reliable as I first thought or expected.

Have now had car for five years. The mileage is now 143,000. Have just passed the MoT again with no problems. The climate control is still a bit hit and miss. Just after the last report, I changed the temperature sensor; this cured most of the problems reported. Averages 60+ MPG. It will be a sad day when I finally sell.
