2020 Skoda Octavia SE Drive 1.0 Tsi petrol from UK and Ireland
Summary:
Good with the right engine
Faults:
Nothing so far. Main dealer has been OK with me for servicing.
General Comments:
Bought this Octavia last year, and it is the last of the older shaped cars before the newer model in late 2020.
I like this car's looks and interior comfort. It is a fine car to own, reliable and cheap to run.
SE trim levels are always well equipped. Seats are comfy. Interior functional if a little dull. Loads of space and huge boot area too.
The car drives rather nicely, quiet and refined, handles OK, brakes are strong.
Now on to the negatives. This 1.0 engine is too weak for a car this size. Yes the performance figures on paper may seem OK, but in everyday driving you have to rev the guts out of it to get anywhere! It also makes a strange sound when revved.
It will do close to 50 mpg, which for petrol is very impressive however.
But in all honesty, go for the 4 cylinder 1.2, 1.4, or 1.5 TSi petrol engines. This 1.0 with only 3 cylinders just isn't up to pulling this larger car around. Or try any 1.6 or 2.0 diesel.
Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad car by any means, but there is a reason an Octaiva with the 1.0 engine is significantly cheaper than the rest of the range on the used market.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know
