2018 smart fortwo - city coupe Passion EQ Electric from North America

Summary:

It's a blast to drive!

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This is our 3rd smart ForTwo and our first electric car.

We decided we wanted an electric car, something inexpensive that we could drive to see if we wanted to spend the money for something bigger.

This version has much better pick-up than the gas powered cars and has much smoother acceleration due to not having a transmission. Optimum speed on the highway is 65 mph (105 kph).

Range: Range is 54 miles (87 km), but only in warm weather. When the temp is near or below freezing at least 25% of the range is lost. I lose more range as where I live is very hilly, and while it regenerates power when going down hill, it's not much.

The car is quite comfortable, this series of smarts are wider than the previous series. There is very little room behind the seats, carrying the factory charging cable doesn't help.

The only thing I'm not crazy about are the headlights - hard to see where I'm going when leaving/turning into the driveway. And the absence of fog lights.

While I generally like the car, it is fun to drive, I would not buy another, mainly because they aren't being sold in the U.S. anymore.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No
