2011 SsangYong Kryon SPR 2.0 turbo diesel from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Fantastic value for money, you should have one on your list to try

Faults:

Nothing so far. The vehicle has not quite reached its first service, but has so far proven to be well bolted together, with no faults to speak of.

Not so much a fault with the car, but a couple of things that could be improved upon for us here in Australia, are a proper sized spare tyre and a steel bashguard up front. I guess these are things that would not be an issue to the average family who use it just for the school run.

Considering the low price of these cars and the fact that the drivetrain is Mercedes Benz (made by Ssangyong under license these days), the above things are just me being picky, as the cost to rectify them is far lower than the difference you would pay to step up to a Toyota or Nissan or Mitsubishi of similar size with a full chassis.

General Comments:

Fantastic value for money, it makes the other SUV's in its class on the market look extremely over priced.

It is very well put together, the build quality is a big improvement on my old Musso. The car is amazingly quiet at 100 km/h - the quietest car I have owned yet.

For a car of this size, it is refreshing to find proper selectable 4wd with low range, rear wheel drive when in 2wd mode, and a ladder chassis underneath.

Really quite good offroad - even though it was designed primarily for snow and ice, it is really good on sand, corrugations etc. It is fitted with some really useful high tech smarts; hill descent control, traction control and anti rollover protection. All work very well, and when teamed with 8 airbags and ABS, make for a very safe ride on or off road.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I have had the car for 12 months, and have done over 20,000 km in all sorts of driving conditions, from round town to bush bashing, to towing caravans interstate.

In that time, the car has proven to be 100% reliable, comfortable and extremely fuel efficient.

In fact, I love the car so much that when it came time for my partner to buy a new car, it was straight down to the Ssangyong dealership for another Ssangyong, a new Korando this time.
