1991 Subaru Leone GL 1.8L from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Cheap, fun, reliable, versatile and capable 4WD

Faults:

Bought it with oil leaks everywhere, timing belt ready to snap, and a wrecked exhaust. It has taken about a grand to fix, but it's now a fun versatile car. Shift on the fly is great, it doesn't need low range. 2 inch exhaust, 98 octane fuel and an advanced tune, and it goes well.

Fuel consumption is a little thirsty though, but amazing fun offroad.

General Comments:

Tough, and always gets me home, broken or not.

1991 Subaru Leone 1.8 from Japan

Summary:

A very reliable car that was worth owning

Faults:

Drive shaft boots needed replaced at 60,000 km.

4WD mechanism needed to be replace at 70,000 km.

Head liner cloth separation when car was nine years old.

General Comments:

4WD mechanism seems to be a problem. Other owners have told me that it is a weak point in the otherwise good car.

Seating is not very comfortable.

Visibility needed to be better, especially to the rear.

Not really an economical car for those who like to drive at a moderately high speed.

A very reliable car with good power and expressway performance.
