1996 Suzuki Alto 657 c.c. gasoline from Cayman Islands

Summary:

A neat little car

Faults:

I just moved to the Cayman Islands and bought this neat little Suzuki Alto to get around. Great on gas and lots of room, but the engine struggled when the air conditioning was turned on. Very little power, but OK for the island. You had to pay attention to the speed or it would slow down to 25 MPH.

Twelve days later Hurricane Ivan arrived and the car - and most of the island - was under seawater for several hours. Everybody said you can't repair a car like that, but I spent several hundred dollars on it before I gave up when it needed a new carburetor which would cost $800.

I would buy another Suzuki Alto, but would go for a later model with the 1,000 c.c. motor.

General Comments:

A neat little car, but keep it above the high water mark.

And if your car has been under seawater, write it off and don't spend any money trying to repair it.
