1998 Suzuki Grand Vitara 5dr 2.0 turbo diesel from Portugal

Summary:

The most boringly reliable car I've ever owned, and that is a good thing

Faults:

The rear cargo door handle broke in 2013.

Driver's seat padding is now starting to get a bit thin (all other seats are fine).

General Comments:

I bought this little beast when I bought a property in Portugal to avoid having to hire a vehicle whilst holidaying. It can sit unattended for months at a time, then burst into life when needed. It's not only been used for everyday duties on the road, it's also been used extensively as a tractor, a rubbish hauler, a winch anchor for felling trees, off-road excursions, etc, etc.

It just keeps on going no matter what and still averages 35 MPG. Yes I've had to replace service items, but absolutely nothing else, not even the clutch. What does it take to break one of these things? (I hope it doesn't break; other than another one of the same, I can't think what would be as reliable).

I find the seats a bit soft, but that's a personal preference for firmer seats.

It may have been boringly reliable to own, but it delivers fun in spades off-road and peace of mind knowing that no matter how long its been left standing, it will always start first time.

The CD player broke within the first week.

General Comments:

Smooth, powerful, well equipped 4x4.

Better than the RAV4 I used to have.
