2011 Suzuki Grand Vitara 4WD 3 door 2.4 petrol from Sao Tome and Principe
Summary:
Durable, powerful, and quite reliable
Faults:
4WD system failures: It's common for the differential compressor to fail, preventing four-wheel drive from engaging. I solve this by installing manual hubcaps.
After 80,000-90,000 km, I started hearing noises in the gearbox. I tried changing the oil, and it partially solved the problem, but it only lasted about 20,000 km longer. Then the same noise returned, so I had to replace the entire gearbox.
This is the biggest problem I've had so far.
In the first few years I noticed high oil consumption and leaks in the oil pan; when this happens, you should change the oil, using the best quality oil possible, the engine will thank you.
General Comments:
While there's no luxury or ostentation, the Grand Vitara's interior clearly demonstrates that this is a quality product, well-assembled and finished, as one would expect from a car made in Japan. Dark colors predominate, accented with some aluminum-gray trim, and in general, the materials are hard plastic, except for the molded plastic on the upper part of the door panels.
The instrument panel is entirely analog, with large, easy-to-read gauges and excellent scales. It also includes an engine coolant temperature gauge. The trip computer offers basic functions such as instantaneous and average fuel consumption, range, and average speed.
The driving position is suitable for people of average height, but taller drivers will likely criticize the lack of reach adjustment for the steering wheel. The seat offers good lateral support, although lumbar support is missed on long journeys.
Overall, the controls are well-placed and easy to use. Visibility is good thanks to the large exterior mirrors, the generously sized rear window, and the rear headrests that fold away into the backrests when not in use.
One of the highlights of the Grand Vitara is its spaciousness, especially in the rear seats, allowing 4 elderly people to travel comfortably.
The 2.4-liter, 166-horsepower engine is truly reliable, economical, and dynamic. Fuel consumption is more than acceptable for this type of vehicle, averaging around 10L/100 km. In a petrol engine, it is more than efficient.
The power steering system is excellent and the brakes work incredibly well; despite being an off-road vehicle and heavy, it offers a dynamic performance that is quite similar to that of a car.
