1998 Suzuki Mehran 0.8 cc from Pakistan

Summary:

No reliability, it's a liability

Faults:

Extremely poor manufacturing. Appalling interior. No safety concept. Highly uncomfortable seats and suspension. A nightmare to drive. My car's engine fell on the road because the engine mounting collapsed due to rust.

General Comments:

This is the worst car I ever had. Cabin is non sense. No safety concept. Engine is extremely unreliable. They are using the same interior for more than 15 years now. I will not recommend anyone to buy this car. Certainly there are more choices available.

1998 Suzuki Mehran 796 cc from Pakistan

Summary:

A low performance car, but costly compared with other hatchbacks delivering so much more..

Faults:

Brakes are totally inefficient. The body weight/braking force ratio is inappropriate. The cars skids under heavy braking.

Specially, the brake pads fail to work if they get wet such as passing through a big puddle/pool of water during rains.

Had an accident with another car, a Honda Civic VTI Oriel at a surprisingly low speed because it was drizzling and the car wouldn't stop in time!!!

General Comments:

The braking system needs to be redesigned with highest priority. Now with many cars on the roads with improved braking systems and equipped with Anti-lock braking etc, one cannot afford to have such cars on the roads.

I agree with you, this car should be banned, its body is made of Dalda oil tin.

1998 Suzuki Mehran 0.8 from Pakistan

Summary:

A car that is unworthy to buy

Faults:

The Suzuki Mehran, manufactured in Pakistan, is not worth buying at all, considering the price tag it has.

The outer body gets rusted so soon, and the windows just get loose and draw themselves into the door when it rains!

Performance is more like driving a motorcycle, as it has not got any add-ons like EFI, ABS brakes, etc.

The engine is too noisy, and loses its performance in only days after a complete service, like a complete brake system change and all rubber parts changed. Very soon it reverts its idle unworthy performance.

Better to buy a Daihatsu Cuore, considering the advantages and performance it has, like looks and all, and the Suzuki Alto's shape is the same they have using for the last 15 or more years!

The paint just started to wear off and lose its shine, and one could see the underlying body.

General Comments:

Overall, the car is not worth the money one pays for it.

Quality control has always been an issue in the Pakistani industry. We cannot compete with the rest of the world because we are corrupt. Its better to buy a donkey rather than buying car assembled in Pakistan. Shame on us all.

Mehran isn't as bad as people are making it look like. It's a pretty good car. I agree it isn't a very solid car, but in the budget that's the only car available. The stays well if you look after it properly. My car has done almost 30000 km and I haven't faced any problems like the ones other people have. The road grip doesn't remain a problem once you've changed the tyres and replaced them with wider tyres. Although nothing can be done for the driving position, but a little comfort can be obtained by installing bucket seats. The brakes don't work well, but that problem can also be solved by installing booster brakes. Buy making a little modifications, this car can be made better. A little appearance modification can get the car to look more appealing like alloys, spoilers, body extensions etc. Overall, the car is economical although I have a non-CNG one, but still its pretty economical. It consumes less parking space as it isn't very big.

I feel that Daihatsu Cuore is really quite better than Mehran... I bought a first hand Mehran couple of days back... but after couple of rides I found that...It is really a piece of junk and not even worth the 400,000 I paid for it. I think it is far better if you can get a Cuore, since it is not much more expensive than Mehran plus it provides, plus it offers much more for the money. It is up to you to decide...Why would you throw away money for something unworthy than you pay a little more and buy a highly efficient thing...
