1998 Suzuki Sidekick Sport 1.8L from North America

Faults:

Transmission gave out twice very expensive rebuilds.

The vehicle is on it's second alternator in two years.

Starter motor malfunction tore teeth from flywheel; another very costly repair (transmission had to come out for a third time).

Body rusted significantly: Had to replace both rear quarter panels and rocker panels on both sides.

In a three year period repair costs are over $8,000.

Think I have a lemon, as friends with same vehicle do not seem to have similar problems as mine.

General Comments:

I like the styling.

Relatively fuel efficient although under-powered for highway use.

Excellent for driving around the city: small & maneuverable; cheap on fuel.

Not a serious 4X4 for off-roading; but great for on-road use in our harsh Canadian winters.

Fair amount of interior noise due to a lack of insulation.

1998 Suzuki Sidekick Sport JX from North America

General Comments:

Fun to drive, even though the engine is not too powerful.

Very quiet even at highway speeds.

Radio's got too small buttons.

New model seems to have those issues fixed!
