1987 Suzuki SJ410 1.1 from Jordan

Summary:

The engine is too small for the car

Faults:

The engine was damaged... developed cracks in the head, mixed water with oil.

General Comments:

Though I replaced the engine twice with original second hand engines, I never had the luck to have the machine run for more than 15 days without trouble.

I am sorry that you had a bad experience with this little Suzuki. I have owned two and the only real problem I ever had was cheaply made lug nuts and the really junkie carb. Both of these had over 200,000 miles on them. They were also just about perfect off road.

1987 Suzuki SJ410 Soft top 998 XTRA SLO from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Cheap fun motoring

Faults:

After about 3 years the transfer box needed changing, I fitted second hand so can only assume since it has not reoccurred that it was a one off fault.

The car does tend to "eat" points, but they are cheap & easy to change.

At about 60000 miles I let the engine freeze, not recommended, the head was damaged so I swapped it, but it was never really right until about 5000 miles ago when I put a second hand engine in.

General Comments:

I love this little car & use it as my second car.

It is so cheap to run, I am only on the second set of tyre's! and it still turns a few heads in the summer with the roof off.

1987 Suzuki SJ410 Q sport 1.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An excellent, fun, off road vehicle

Faults:

Body rusty when purchased.

Soft top leaks - only to be expected!

General Comments:

This is an amazing off-roader.

Humourous on road, not the most comfortable car in the world, but that's not what this vehicle's about. Performance on road is poor, and is helped greatly by an after-market free-flow exhaust.

This is a lifestyle, not a car. Don't expect it to start every morning, but if it does you know you'll be travelling in style! Insurance prices are high for a first time motorist such as myself.

Costs are outweighed by the sheer fun of ownership. Soft top is a must in my opinion.

So, just what is great about owning this pile of junk? It's rusty, it leaks, it's not very comfortable, it doesn't always start and it's expensive to insure.

There is certainly nothing stylish about that.
