1996 Suzuki Vitara JLX 1.6 G16B EFI 16v from Iceland

Summary:

OH BOB (License plate says OH 808)

Faults:

The fuel pump died and the fuel filter was clogged.

I adjusted the valve clearance at 158,000 due to excessive knocking. Now it is silent.

Dash lights were dead when I bought the vehicle, I replaced those at around 160,000.

Front drivers side wheel bearing had gone south. I blame the previous owner for not lubricating it correctly and adjusting. It had overheated either from too much tightness or lack of lubrication.

That's the only thing that has gone wrong while I own the car and I blame dirty gasoline.

General Comments:

The car has the 5.125:1 final drive ratio, 96 horsepower. And weighs 1300KG (1,3) TON.

The car has modified suspension, 3" lift on the body and 2" on the suspension. Which eventually puts a lot more stress on everything, but yet it is very comfortable to drive.

It handles like a charm, and driving in the city is just like driving a normal little family car.

It's quick to jump into traffic, not like other 4x4 cars.

Small and easy to park.

NOTE: I have the two door hardtop version of the car.

1996 Suzuki Vitara jlx 1.6L 16v from Philippines

Summary:

Value for money

Faults:

Water pump leaked at 80000 km, replaced this f0r around $72 u.s.d.

Replaced timing belt and tensioner bearings every 80000 km.

Head of radiator crakced at 80000 km, replaced this for around $40 u.s.d.

Rubber part of matting melted due to the heat in our country and is now attached to the carpet.

Leather shrunk in the driver and passenger doors, now it is cracked.

Windows are out of alignment.

Recently replaced the automatic transmission filter and oil, my reverse took a while before it engaged.

Replacement or upgrade of wheels is very difficult to find.

General Comments:

Aside from the stuff mentioned above, the car is built to last.

Generally, the above mentioned are all normal wear and tear items, considering the age of the car.

If your looking for comfort, I would not recommend this car.

If you want practicality, reliability and and low maintenance cost. this car is great.

1996 Suzuki Vitara LX 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Don't buy, poor man's off roader

Faults:

Serious serious problems with whole alarm system and central locking, expensive to run and unreliable. Immobilizer only worked when it wanted to stop me getting to work. Whole car, combined with poor dealer, was a living hell.

General Comments:

Interior had cheap look, problems with alarm meant that car was off road more than it was on. Poor mileage per gallon. Stylish to look at, but that doesn't get you to work!
