1982 Vauxhall Astra Estate 1.3 petrol from UK and Ireland

Dependable workhorse

Oil leaks began at 44,000 miles.

Right side front headlight blew at 49,000 miles.

Brake cable snapped at 56,000 miles.

Driver's side door handle broke at 61,000 miles.

General Comments:

Aside a small number of faults with the body and oil tank, the Astra was a solid and sturdy car which withstood extensive use and a relatively high mileage.

Performance wasn't very exciting, but economy was fairly good.

Estate body shell was practical and contained a spacious interior.

Good value for money at £1,750 for a five year old estate car.

Value dropped to £800 in the space of two years.
