2010 Vauxhall Astra Van Sportive 1.7 CDTi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Workhorse

Faults:

Upon purchase, I gave it a new clutch and flywheel and fixed an oil leak. I got the van real cheap as a fixer upper.

General Comments:

2010 Astra Van - very useful vehicle in these challenging times.

I got a great deal, and being a mechanic it was no big deal for me to fix. My van is silver and has alloy wheels, not a typical dull white van.

Actually nice to drive and does a solid 50 mpg.

Plenty of space in the back. The van is older with some mileage now, but has been looked after well. Was a works van originally, but clearly had lighter use in recent years.

It makes the perfect vehicle for small business or private use. Not many of these vans about any more, but they were popular and it's easy to see why - a good looking van that's nice to drive and economical.

Put 25K miles on it the last few years without an issue.

2010 Vauxhall Astra SRi 1.7 CDTi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Not bad

Faults:

Had to replace the clutch and flywheel upon purchase (I'm a mechanic so no big deal), but I got the car real cheap (£400) as spares or repairs. Otherwise good condition with little to no faults, been looked after for its age. Passed an MOT recently with no advisory. Pretty impressive for a car that's now 16 years old!

General Comments:

Hard to believe 2010 was 16 years ago, I remember when these new shape Astra's came out how futuristic and stylish they looked. I think it's still a smart modern looking car today in 2026.

My SRi model looks the part in dark grey with alloy wheels. Fun to drive.

Inside the interior is starting to show its age, but still comfortable and modern and nice to be in for long journeys, the car is refined on the move and the seats are holding up well. Plenty of electric features.

1.7 CDTi has a decent turn of speed and is very economical as expected for diesel.

If I get another year or two out of it, I have won. Great value for money. But be aware at this age and mileage there are a lot of very rough Astra's of this generation out there that are beyond repair and would be better off scrapped! Find a nice one though and it will be a great little run about for anyone that just needs a decent cheap car.

2010 Vauxhall Astra SE 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Mediocre

Faults:

Sticking handbrake, oil leak, gearbox seems hesitant.

Lots of interior rattles.

General Comments:

The Astra is the definition of average. Not a bad car, but certainly not a great one.

I found this one in the used car lot a couple of years ago. It seemed looked after well and was a nice price.

Nice to drive. Steering is smooth. Interior sufficiently refined. Ride is smooth.

Good looking exterior on the Astra of this generation. My car is black, and nice alloy wheels.

The 1.6 petrol engine with the automatic box is not a great combo however. Performance and economy are poor. I've only got 33 mpg at best and the car seems to struggle in most situations.

Maybe I'd buy another - for a cheap older car it is OK and still running so cannot complain too much, but I'd avoid this engine and gearbox setup in future. A manual diesel is probably more suited to the Astra.

Can confirm these cars are much better with diesel and a manual setup!

But... worth hanging onto, you have an Astra of this age with low mileage, and that is a rare thing, it's getting harder to find early cars with any less than 100K miles on them.
