2015 Vauxhall Astra SRi GTC 2.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Looks sharp, average in all other respects

Faults:

Nothing beyond what I would class as wear and tear for the age and mileage. I have had the car a couple of years now and replaced nothing other than tyres, brake pads, and had it serviced on time.

General Comments:

My Astra GTC in bright red stands out from the crowd. Love the SRi trim and wheel package, this is a sharp looking car.

Inside is very dull however. Dash is laid out nicely enough, but the fiddly buttons in the centre console can take a lot of getting used to. Blind spots in the rear ruin an otherwise easy enough to drive car.

The 2.0 CDTi is a good engine, feels fast and you can get between 50 - 60 miles per gallon. Wouldn't call it a sports car, but if that's what you want you need to check out the VXR version.

Main dealer was useless and uninterested in older cars; check out local independents for servicing and repairs to keep costs down. The Astra will never be anything special even in sportier trims, but it is an ideal run about as an everyday car.

2015 Vauxhall Astra GTC Sport 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Love it!

Faults:

Nothing really beyond the usual wear and tear. The car is still young and low mileage, so do not expect any big bills just yet. Bought with full history from a reputable dealer. I keep it looked after and serviced by the book.

General Comments:

If you find the regular Astra too boring, check out the GTC models! World away from the normal version.

My GTC is pretty basic; there is also a VXR version which is even faster. But costs lots more to run. But if you want a good looking car on a budget that is still fun enough to drive, check out the entry level GTC's. My 1.4 Sport has enough equipment to make the car fun to drive/ride in. Acceleration is a bit slow sometimes, but go for the bigger engines if you want more. You can get 45 MPG + out of this though, excellent for petrol.

My only real complaint is the 6 speed gearbox - a little unnecessary on a car with a smaller engine, 5 speed would have done just fine.

My GTC is very similar. As it turns out there are two versions of the 1.4 petrol to the best of my knowledge - a 120 and a 140. Obviously the 140 is the one to go for with more power, and both have similar economy (around 47 average mpg).

Cannot speak for the 1.6 turbo petrol or diesel versions, but I'm guessing they will probably perform better. And if ultimate performance is what you want, take a look at the VXR as mentioned.

2015 Vauxhall Astra Excite 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Boring, but not a bad car

Faults:

Usual wear and tear and servicing, no major disasters.

General Comments:

2015 Astra Excite. Couldn't get a more common or generic example of a car if you tried. This was bought as a run about for myself.

Red 5 door with nice alloy wheels. The "Excite" stops there. Excite spec has most things electric. Comfortable if a little cramped (if you are over 6 feet tall) and very dull and grey. Functional modern interior.

The car is not bad to drive. 1.6 petrol is a decent all rounder. A bit lethargic on faster roads, but you can get a little over 40 MPG taking it easy, not bad for petrol.

Really difficult to say anymore other than if you want an easy to live with modern car, check out the Astra.
