1979 Vauxhall Chevette HSR 2.3 twin cam from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Awesome

Faults:

Almost everything, but it's an HSR, so that's what to expect.

General Comments:

Even with all the problems, I wouldn't sell it for anything. I've owned several quicker cars, but they don't have the character of the HSR.

1979 Vauxhall Chevette 1.3 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Best car I ever had

Faults:

The head gasket blew.

Fuel pump died.

Water pump died.

Starter motor died.

The clutch gave up.

General Comments:

This car from its faults, should in theory be my most hated car... In fact I loved it.

It was my first car and I still love the look of them (so much so I have just purchased a project chevette).

They stick to the road and handle well.

Also they are something just a little bit different on the road.

I picked one of these up for a dealer in Manchester. I drove the car from Sussex, it had 14 miles on the clock, I made it to redhill in surrey when it lost power. I waited 2 days for it to be repaired. it needed new push rods.

I loved the little chevettes, simple good handling and cheap.

Miss those days.

1979 Vauxhall Chevette GL 1.3 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

I will never forget..

Faults:

Wings rusted. Cheap to replace.

Starter motor kept jamming until it went bang during a regular push start.

Alternator gave up after a year running with a dim battery warning light.

Carburetor would not adjust, resulting in a rich mixture that often left me stranded when the engine was half warmed up.

A valve spring broke while I was racing (and beating) a 1.3 Capri on the way home from Clacton.

General Comments:

My first car! I loved it even though it could only do 90, it leaked when it rained, it would not start when cold. I wonder where it is now.
