1993 Vauxhall Corsa LS 1.4 TD from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Worth paying extra for the turbo

Faults:

Head gasket went at 50,000 miles.

Bits and bobs on the dash falling apart.

General Comments:

This was a fantastic little beast!

Turbo is a real treat and overtaking was never a problem.

Apart from blowing up at 50,000 miles (not a common problem I can assure you!) and the interior consisting of clicky plasticy bits, I never had a problem with it.

'Economical' would be a vast understatement.

1993 Vauxhall Corsa GSi 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Nippy little town car

Faults:

Needed a new oil pump along with a gear box.

Had a new clutch fitted, then the speedo cable stopped working. Engine management light kept coming on & cutting out at junctions. Had a new speedo cable fitted - no problems since.

Has a noisy engine - may be the kams going, seems to lose a lot of oil as well.

General Comments:

Have spent quite a bit of money fixing little annoying problems.

Quite a nippy car, looks nice after a wash & polish.

Not a comfy drive on long motorway journeys.

1993 Vauxhall Corsa LS 1.2 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A cheap economical runaround

Faults:

The external temperature gauge has never shown the correct temperature (normally shows about 60°C).

The radio/clock display has stopped working.

The radio only switches on when you turn the lights on and will only respond if the lights are in!!? It is still the factory fitted model.

When pulling away/accelerating the engine “dips” before slowly picking up.

General Comments:

This is a cheap and reliable little car that looks great for its age, it's a shame that it is let down by its poor electrics and performance.

Ideal for a careful, safe driver commuting or driving short distances.

Lacks the power or comfort for anything more.

1993 Vauxhall Corsa LS 1.2i 8v from UK and Ireland

Faults:

No problems with the car so far.

General Comments:

This car is a well built and cheap run about. The interior is of a good construction and is built to take heavy loads if required.

The driving position is a little uncomfortable due to slightly soft seating, but I have done many long journey's with little discomfort.

The engine is willing and good for running around town, however for motorway cruising it seems to get noisy at higher revs and sometimes overtaking can be difficult. Despite this so far there have been no problems with the engine and I hope to see many more miles on the clock in the future.

Overall I would rate this a good economical little car.

1993 Vauxhall Corsa merit 1.2 8v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Reliable cheap first car

Faults:

Nothings gone wrong really.

The exhaust blew after having it for 1000 miles.

General Comments:

This car is fine around town, but you really have to boot it on the motorways.

Especially with the 4 speed gear box.

Its very good on petrol 40 mpg.

Ideal first car that's cheap to run and insure.

1993 Vauxhall Corsa LS 1.2 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good Economical town car

Faults:

Slight rusting under lip of bonnet when I bought the car.

At 65,000 miles the gearbox linkage broke.

At 80,000 miles the water pump broke. When it was fixed the water pressure blew the head gasket.

At 90,000 miles the piston valve rockers broke. This meant the Engine needed dismantled to find the bits, so another set of gaskets was also replaced.

General Comments:

It is a good little car always starts first time. Only one major problem is that it slides sideways whilst cornering, which can be scary some times especially on sharp corners. This problem can be eased with wider wheels. The steering is fairly heavy on models without power steering. the corsa is fairly nippy 0-50 mph. overtaking can sometimes be a live or die situation because of the poor acceleration after 50mph. High Mileage cars struggle to maintain 70mph on motorways and is virtually in possible to overtake without causing serious damage to the Engine/Gearbox.
