2015 Vauxhall Mokka Tech Line 2WD 1.6 CDTi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

My worst car

Faults:

Where to start? Everything has gone wrong. Oil and coolant leaks. Blown gaskets. Clutch/flywheel/turbo.

EML light always on. Timing rattle on start up.

Constant problems with sticking brakes, pedal box as well isn't sitting right.

Suspension issues and wheel alignment causing uneven tyre wear even after wheel alignment checked by two dealers.

Alternator failed, left me stranded dangerously at the side of the road.

The list goes on, it's too depressing to think about.

General Comments:

Bought as I needed a modern family vehicle.

But the worst decision I ever made regards a car, thinking it cannot be this bad and I cannot be this unlucky.

The poor reliability issues aside, it isn't even that good a car. Firm ride, cramped rear space for passengers, dull to drive, slow.

On the plus side, when it runs right, it did do a genuine 55 - 60 mpg, insurance was cheap as well. And it was cheap to buy.

But what's the point if the car is in the garage getting repaired all the time, and any money you saved elsewhere just gets spent on repairs?

It's 11 years old now and over 100K miles, I guess it's only good for scrap. Just like my old Ford Kuga when it was the same age. This Vauxhall Mokka has been just as bad. Avoid pretentious SUV/Crossover type vehicles from the early 2010's, they are full of tech and engines that are just too complex and expensive to fix nowadays.

I believe these were engineered by Daewoo and salvaged by GM once Daewoo went bust and sold to the customers as Chevrolet, Buick, Opel and Vauxhall.

And of all the GM brands, Daewoo was simply the worst one of them all. Crap quality, hideous safety record and unprofitable. Daewoo was the Lada of the GM group.

You're right about Daewoo in general, though I don't think they had anything to do with Vauxhall after the 1990's. This 2015/16 reviewed car here was a newer vehicle developed as an all new cross over.

Either way, it wasn't the best as the reviewer suggests. A lot of these cars are bought by people who just want modern economical family transport, but the problem with modern diesels is you need to do high mileage to get the benefits from them, and keep emissions systems happy like EGR valves and DPF in your exhaust, which can only be kept healthy by super long journeys. Short journeys really kill these components and end up showing a lot of problems like the review car had.

2016 Vauxhall Mokka Exclusiv 2WD 1.6i petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

OK for those that just want to get about

Faults:

Wear and tear, no real faults.

General Comments:

A decent family run about, the Mokka is nothing special.

Basic "Exclusiv" model has plenty features for a base model. Interior is comfortable, ride a bit firm but not a problem on short journeys. Spacious enough for me.

1.6i petrol is the simplest engine, nothing special regards economy and performance. It handles everyday driving just fine, and does around 38 mpg. Insurance service and repair costs are reasonable.

My car is blue, with big alloy wheels, looks smart. I still think it looks modern for a 2016 vehicle, blends in just fine.

If you aren't too concerned with image and excitement, a Mokka will do you just fine.

2016 Vauxhall Mokka 2WD Exclusiv 1.6 CDTi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Avoid

Faults:

Clutch, DPF, EGR valve, oil leak, injectors, turbo, the list goes on!

General Comments:

Good points about the Mokka;

Spacious family car. Smart looking in white with alloy wheels. Very comfortable interior. Good to drive, performs OK and always does around 50 mpg or more.

Bad points;

Poor reliability. This car has been terrible, barely had it two years, soo many common diesel issues that were expensive to fix, thus defeating the purpose of buying a diesel to save money.

I got a good deal on this car from an approved used dealer. It had low mileage and full history, but it still gave too many problems, never again. Cannot wait to sell it soon. My next car will be petrol, and probably not a Vauxhall.

Most modern diesels of this era have issues with the problems you mentioned. Not exclusive to Vauxhall.
