1996 Vauxhall Vectra SRi 2.0 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

The gearbox manifold needed replacing (warranty), the ECU Light was on (warranty) - apparently a common problem due to Air Con interference.

General Comments:

Car performed reasonably well when I bought it 5 months ago (Aug 98), since had it Superchipped, has eliminated some of the lag low down and increased mid range performance to make overtaking even more enjoyable.

1996 Vauxhall Vectra LS 1.8 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Persistent problems with the engine management system, leading to on on occasion, the car accelerating and deaccelerating on its own. Now have a problem that the revs lift by as much as 800 rpm between gear changes. Am now fed up with the thing roaring its head off between gear changes - almost impossible to drive smoothly - especially in town. Dealer says this is "normal" and is due to "emmission" controls - I don't believe him.

General Comments:

Nice car, but spoilt by engine problem and appalling MPG. My 130k 1.6 cavalier is still nicer to drive AND returns much better fuel figures. The Vectra has never done better than 31mpg - and it isn't driven hard.

1996 Vauxhall Vectra GLS 1.8i 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Electric mirror control fell off after 9 months.

General Comments:

Excellent power from engine of this size, better handling than the media would have you believe. Clarkson can stick his comments up his ar*e.

Excellent stereo, best I've seen as standard fit, good quality interior and trim. doesn't look that bad.

I very much agree with you about the performance, I have a 2.0GLS and it pulls like anything! The engine sounds wonderful at high revs!

I also agree about the stereo, but the speakers are not good enough for it causing them to blow which I have heard from many others as well!

Recently I had to pay out £1500 for a service because nearly everything went wrong with it! - new exhaust, window washer pump, electric window motor on the driver's side, oil leak in the engine, digital computer with the radio info on, blown speakers, faulty engine management system!

Apart from that, a good family car!
