1969 Volkswagen Beetle 1500 review from North America
"Sheer joy to drive"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I had the original transmission replaced at a whopping cost of $200.00.
General comments?
I was born in 1963 and have grown up around Volkswagens. I always wanted a late 60's Beetle. So this year I finally found a nice one.
I've driven everything from muscle cars to a M30 Infiniti. Yet nothing compares to driving this little bug.
No power steering, brakes, or air conditioning. However driving this car gets one back to the real meaning of man and machine. The car makes you pay attention to it.It's engine noise. It's handling. Makes you enjoy every minute driving it.
It seems everybody at one time or another has owned a VW Beetle. So, be prepared to talk to a lot of people. And make a lot of new friends. Because there are a lot of these little cars still on the road.
