1993 Volkswagen Golf VR6 2.8 petrol from UK and Ireland
Summary:
The best hatchback in the world
Faults:
Passenger's side window motor failed at 77,000 miles.
Stereo developed faults at around 80,000 miles before finally packing up at 86,000 miles.
Tyres wore very quickly.
Interior trim started to crumble during my final year of ownership.
General Comments:
The Golf was a very reliable car except for one or two electrical problems.
Build quality was initially very good, but the car's interior eventually started to show its age.
The best thing about the Golf was its swift performance and dynamic handling.
It was also very comfortable and practical.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Sad to hear you had so many problems with this diesel Golf. I owned one for five years. I bought it used with 150,000 miles (246,000 kilometers). When I gave it to my son, it had over 350,000 miles. During all these years and miles: no engine rebuiding or repairs, no transmission or clutch repairs, no radiator problems, no fuel pump repairs, nor repairs that cost me more than $500 each. This car was a model assembled in Mexico. Of course, I had minor repairs, but I must admit it was the best car I ever owned. Maybe not the most comfortable and quiet car, but very efficient. I got a steady 40 miles per US gallon (I do mostly highway driving). Before this car I had a 1993 Ford Escort, and I had to sell it because it was falling apart with only 110,000 miles.
