2017 Volkswagen Golf Bluemotion Tech GT 2.0 TDi from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fast, reliable, and economical, a near perfect car!

Faults:

Nothing. Minor cosmetic issues. And if I'm being really picky, the electric mirror switch feels loose, and the bonnet catch feels like I am going to break it when I use it!

General Comments:

2017 5 door Golf in silver, GT model. A fantastic modern hatch.

Good looking car inside and out.

I have little if anything negative to say about this car. I've had it a couple of years and never had any trouble. I enjoy every drive and struggle to find a car that's better! A similar Ford Focus or Vauxhall Astra does not compare. OK cars, but the Golf really is the best in this class.

GT model has a sporty feel and all electrics. Infotainment system is nice and easy to use, seats are super comfortable, and there are various driving modes.

The "DSG" automatic box I thought I might not like at first (I prefer manual cars) but this one has been a revelation. It actually changes gears real quick, or can be put into an eco mode and be super economical.

Dash and materials have a top quality feel even after 8 years.

Arguably overpriced to buy and service/repair. Worth it though. It returns with economy in the long run (good MPG, reasonable tax and insurance) and this Golf actually feels like a better car than my old Audi A3, and that is really something. Find a looked after one with low mileage and you will enjoy it for many years as a practical fun car!

2017 Volkswagen Golf SE Electric Drive from North America

Summary:

More reliable and lower operating cost than gas models, 125 miles at a time

Faults:

Apple Car Play can be glitchy at times. Works about 90%.

General Comments:

Owning my eGolf has been a dream. 87,000 problem free miles. 87,000 miles of no oil changes or gas stops. I wish the top speed wasn't governed at 85 mph. I wish the range didn't take such a hit when you turn the heater on.

The low range is killer for EV's and always will be. I live in the UK and have a diesel Golf, you cannot beat filling the tank up and going confidently for around 700 miles without filling up! I wouldn't buy an electric one, sorry.
