"A dying myth, be careful"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The quality of the paintwork (black) is very poor.

Door locks are a major problem with them.

Window screen wiper motors,

Gets covered with stone chips you wouldn't believe it!

Problems with electrics cutting out.

Not reliable it's an s reg and has broken down twice.

General comments?

Truly a terrible car, its comfortable and looks o.k, but that's about it. Dealers leave a lot to be desired very bad service!!, a very disappointing car has full service history and all the above has gone wrong in under two months. Also not an isolated incident as this has been the case of most if not all golfs I have heard from. This car is a dying myth! I cant warn you enough, beware.

Same problems with the Seat Leon, poor paint quality, water leaks all over and a lot more.

VW is not what it has been, only the price still is.

I've had a 1999 Golf GTI Turbo for 7 months, and it is the worst car I ever owned. So much has gone wrong with it in the last 2 months that I can't wait to get it back from the garage and get rid of it. It drives well when it's working, unfortunately there's usually something wrong with it so it spends most of it's time in the workshop. Fact it has been main dealer maintained has not helped reliability. I also have the same problems with the black paintwork, awful quality that chips if you even show it a stone. I bought the car because I have owned previous VWs which have been excellent. I feel so disappointed with this car though that I don't think I would buy another modern VW.

I have recently bought a Golf 1.4se, and I to have had problems with my paintwork especially around the doors!

Also my electrics in the right back passenger door have failed so I have no use of my window or central locking

causing the door to remain permanently shut. Also the driver's window had to be refitted as it's brackets had broken causing the window to slide down the door! Not to mention the problems I'm having with my locks... my boot rarely opens on the first try and the left back passenger door refuses to open from the outside. My drinks holder has broken and the rear ashtray doesn't close. I've only had this car 6 months now and have had trouble with it from the word go! If only I knew I would not have bought it!

I bought a vw golf 1.6si and its on a T registration. I saved for ages for a decent deposit as it was my dream car. In the last 6 months that I've had the car I've been concerned with the teething problems, the clutch pulses when I stop at traffic lights etc. the back ashtray which I don't use is broken and the passenger side window has just dropped down into the car door. Apparantly the bracket has snapped and its not covered on my warranty. My insurance company says it's a vw manufacturing problem and they should fix it free of charge. They say otherwise. The company I bought it from said its 'not their problem'. I'm gutted. It's 2 weeks until christmas and I can't afford to have it repaired. It's raining today of all days and all my interior is now soaking wet. I have certainly changed my view on volkswagen's reliability.
