Disappointing
Air Conditioning - quit running after 8 years. Too expensive to fix.
Back-up lights stopped working.
Had several recalls (gas tank, and heater core)
Nice handling.
Not as fast as I expected.

A practical and fun car that gives me a smile every time I drive her
I went through several clutches, all with oil on them due to a seal leaking. I have never managed to wear one out.
The driver's side seat bolster worn.
The driver's side window winder replaced 4 times over the years.
The radiator had a crack in the plastic end cap requiring replacement at about 60,000 miles.
The usual replacement items on any car of this mileage have been replaced, like shocks and brakes.
This car has never left me stranded in the 200,000+ miles I have owned her.
Will all those miles I have really only replaced wear and tear items.
Seats are really comfortable and supportive for long road trips.
I got tired of waiting for the motor to die so I am currently doing a 2.0L swap for more power.

All around wicked car!!!!
This is since I got the car:
New clutch.
Reverse mirror.
Steering wheel honk horn.
Handbrake.
Bolt down seats.
Changed wheels.
Sunroof.
Performance muffler.
New exhaust system.
Engine gasket.
Oil sensor.
Temperature sensor.
New battery.
New spark plugs.
New oxygen sensor.
New catalytic converter.
Several tune-ups.
New speedometer.
New odometer.
The car was a real mess when I got it 'cause the guy who had it never appreciated it.
Now I got it up to standard and it runs really well..... my advice to all: When you get a GTi, you can never go back to a Golf CL.

Car has 4 wheel discs causing the rear callipers to seize due to lack of use rendering emergency brake useless (x2 repaired).
Requires little maintenance other than very regular oil changes. Mine reads 310,000kms on the odo and wants to go for another 200,000. The car is 14 yrs old and handles extremely well in addition to being able to eat a new 318 for breakfast despite her wrinkles; not bad for 2000.00 cdn.
