1994 Volkswagen GTI 8V 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Spend your money and get a nice example!

Faults:

HT coil.

Suspension is rather hard at the rear.

Water leak, which I don't know where or how this has happened.

Sunroof doesn't work (runners) and seals.

Water pump.

General Comments:

Generally has nice performance, still can get between 30 - 35 MPG.

Handles nice when really giving it the beans, despite my rear suspension is rather hard.

It has a bit of a slow take off, but when you get it going, it does go some. Just watch the speed because the engine is quiet.

The engine is still very strong and the gearbox is still fine.

1994 Volkswagen GTI 2.0 Crossflow 8v from North America

Summary:

Doom and Gloom Electrical System..

Faults:

The car had an electrical gremlin that showed its face pretty much the day after the used car warranty expired.

The engine would quit without warning, during the worst times (going thru an intersection, accelerating on a green light, passing traffic)

After changing MAF sensor, coil, distributor, fuel delivery relays, computer, crank timing sensor, and every other removable electrical item, I sold the car for 1/2 what I paid for it, two years earlier.

General Comments:

The paint, fit and finish on this particular model is superb.

Ride quality is smooth and quiet.

The 4-wheel disc brake system is the greatest aspect to this car.

Poor electrical system.
