1996 Volkswagen Jetta GLS from North America

Summary:

Volkswagen for life!!

Faults:

I haven't really had any major problems with my car.

When I picked up the car from the dealer, one piece of molding was coming off the front passenger side door.

There was a piece of metal hanging off of the muffler.

The check engine light went on a week after I got the car. (Oxygen sensors were bad.)

Windshield washer fluid tubes were clogged.

All of these problems were fixed under warranty.

Also, the car was never detailed from the dealer before I picked it up. Some of the seats had stains on them, and I think the previous owner had a cat cause there was cat hair all over everything. Not a big deal though, it only took a short time to clean up.

General Comments:

I love this car! I received it for a college graduation present, and I have to say that I think it will be the best present I will ever get in my life. I definitely think that I will never buy another kind of car in this lifetime.

This car is fast, great on gas, and drives so smooth. The interior is comfortable (although the seat fabric stains easily, it is so soft!) The controls are all easy to reach. I also like how large the trunk is. One day when I move out of my parents' house, (after I get a real job), I know that I have plenty of room to pack up my stuff.

If I love this (used) one this much, I can't wait to get a new one!!

1996 Volkswagen Jetta GL 2.0 gas from North America

Summary:

The affordable German engineered sedan

Faults:

Transmission died at 13,000 miles.

A/C worked sporadically for a few months.

CD player works one day and not the next.

General Comments:

I bought this car based on the merits of my 1994 Jetta. That car saved my life. I was in a horrible wreck and walked away with only a broken collarbone.

This car had growing pains the first year. The transmission and the AC had quite a few problems the first summer I had it. I complained to dealer and then to VW. VW ended up tacking on another year onto the warranty.

Growing pains aside the car has been a joy to drive and still runs great.

Gas mileage is 25 city / 34 highway.

Never burns oil.

I own a 1996 Jetta GL with approx. 72k miles on it. I LOVE THIS CAR!! It's a gem. I will never by anything other than VW!! This car is dependable, maneuvers well and powers on the highway. I live in Cleveland where winters are rough, and salt rusts cars. My car has some rust on the under-body, but none on the painted parts of the vehicle. I recommend VW's to anyone interested in an automobile that may cost a bit more, but is well worth the investment!!

1996 Volkswagen Jetta Trek from North America

Summary:

A bargain

Faults:

Seats have started to wear.

I have replaced the ignition housing, and the catalytic converter. The catalytic converter problem was due to incorrect sparks plugs being installed causing misfiring.

I have only had regular maintenance work performed with the exception of the aforementioned items.

General Comments:

I love this car. It is very reliable and I can always count on it turning on when I need to get somewhere in a hurry.

I would have loved it even more if it had power windows and cruise control.

I always take it on long trips and it is comfortable.

I am a very happy customer and would buy another Volkswagen in a heartbeat.

I have to say that I agree with you completely. My Volkswagon Jetta Trek was my favorite car. I traded it in a year ago and that was the biggest mistake. That car was my pride and joy. The performance parts made it even more fun to drive.
