Summary:

Save your money, buy anything but a VW Jetta

Faults:

Recently I had to replace my transmission or gear box, given my car has a manual transmission, but the dealer forgot to check the gear oil. After 10,000 miles the gears overheated and broke within the gear box. So make sure you check your gear box oil to avoid this problem.

The biggest complaint I have about my VW, is VW's management and their unconscionable behavior towards its customers. My VW like so many others is a fish bowl. I have cleaned my drains, yet every time it rains, the passenger side of the vehicle is flooded. The dealer acts like this is a freak thing, but after reading all of the posts, it is obviously a design defect. Personally, I will never own another VW. So much for German Engineering.

I have experienced some of the same problems you have had with my 2002 VW Jetta. I've owned the car since it was brand new and haven't had a lot of complaints. Recently I experienced the water in the front floor board. I took it to the dealer and they repaired a clogged sunroof drain tube. This cost $123.00. Now the airbag light is on and the dealer tells me that it will cost $360.00 to replace the sensor. They also charged me $50.00 for this estimate.

I was assured by the service department that I wasn't in danger driving with the seat belt light on. Has anyone else had this problem?

Summary:

Very dependable

Faults:

I changed the battery and then the radio didn't work. There was no power to the radio. I tried to change the fuse but couldn't locate the correct fuse location from the manual. So, I found on-line that fuse 42 was for the radio. I checked the fuse and it was good. The next morning I took the Jetta to our dealer and they changed a fuse that was in back of the radio. They had to pull the radio to change the fuse. Cost, $24.85 with labor. Thought I'd pass it along to save someone the time I wasted troubleshooting the problem.

General Comments:

This is my daughters car and it's been a great for her. Lots of pep and good performance! The heated seats and traction control really helped in the winter.

Summary:

This car is horrible

Faults:

This is the LONG LIST of problems that went wrong with my 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T.

I had my turbocharger replaced twice, my transmission replaced, the oil pan replaced, the oil pump replaced, the head replaced, the coils replace, crank rods, camshafts, and bearings replaced.

I had my brake rotors replaced on all corners and pads twice.

My temperature gauge light keeps blinking when the car is cold, and my battery keeps dying.

I have a 2 year unlimited mile warranty on the car and they didn't cover any of the charges. I have spent $9,000 fixing this car, and I still owe money on it.

Now my car has overheated and my engine has seized. It will cost me another $2,300 for a new engine without labor. I have been without my car for more than 7 months. This is by far the worst car ever! I never thought that I would be investing almost $10,000 in repairs for this car.

Summary:

It is awful

Faults:

I have a 2002 Jetta and it seems like everything that could go wrong with it, has.

I constantly have to change my brake lights because they are always going out.

My radio broke and had to be busted out of the car.

My wheels are always going flat.

It has broke down many times from being overheated, etc.

There are many more problems, but the worst one of all, my car is literally a swimming pool when it rains. The drivers side front and back are about an inch deep in water. It is ridiculous. I have no idea what could be wrong. I have checked all of the window and door seals. Could ANYONE help me with this problem?

General Comments:

This is the worst car to ever own.

Check your sunroof drains, they could be clogged. My Jetta used to leak too until I cleaned the drains.
