2000 Volkswagen Jetta GT review from North America

"Horrid Price for this lemon"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

First of all I was happy with my 1996 Volkswagen Jetta. I decided to trade it in for a newer model, since I like the way they handled and the new body style. My 96 had little or no problems so I was more than happy to get a 2000 model. About 2 months of driving the car the Oil Light came on. I checked the oil and it was about 1.5 quarts low. I found that odd, topped it off and checked it every few days. Well sure enough the oil level drained again. I contacted the dealer and brought the car in for “repairs”. The changed the oil and told me to bring it back in 1000 miles or when it’s 1 quart low, since you know driving with 1 quart low is OK and all…I brought the car back with another problem, the mass airflow sensor had failed. At that time they checked the oil and it was only.2 quarts low. I brought the car back once more at around 1000 miles and at that time it was a full 1 quart low. I was told again to bring it back one last time then they can do an oil pressure test and hopefully find the problem. Well I brought the car back at 1000 miles and only half a quart low. The service manager of a Volkswagen dealer then told me it had to be 1 quart low before I could bring it back. Then he proceeded to tell me there was no problem with my car, it was allowable for it to burn 1 quart of oil at 1500 miles. Well the car never got fixed and I’m left with this lemon.

General comments?

Is there anyway to bring about a class action lawsuit? Do you really believe anyone would buy a car that consumes oil??? Anyone want to contact me with any suggestions?? gimpydingo@hotmail.com I think I'll look into a lemon law lawyer.
