"Horrid Price for this lemon"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

First of all I was happy with my 1996 Volkswagen Jetta. I decided to trade it in for a newer model, since I like the way they handled and the new body style. My 96 had little or no problems so I was more than happy to get a 2000 model. About 2 months of driving the car the Oil Light came on. I checked the oil and it was about 1.5 quarts low. I found that odd, topped it off and checked it every few days. Well sure enough the oil level drained again. I contacted the dealer and brought the car in for “repairs”. The changed the oil and told me to bring it back in 1000 miles or when it’s 1 quart low, since you know driving with 1 quart low is OK and all…I brought the car back with another problem, the mass airflow sensor had failed. At that time they checked the oil and it was only.2 quarts low. I brought the car back once more at around 1000 miles and at that time it was a full 1 quart low. I was told again to bring it back one last time then they can do an oil pressure test and hopefully find the problem. Well I brought the car back at 1000 miles and only half a quart low. The service manager of a Volkswagen dealer then told me it had to be 1 quart low before I could bring it back. Then he proceeded to tell me there was no problem with my car, it was allowable for it to burn 1 quart of oil at 1500 miles. Well the car never got fixed and I’m left with this lemon.

General comments?

Is there anyway to bring about a class action lawsuit? Do you really believe anyone would buy a car that consumes oil??? Anyone want to contact me with any suggestions?? gimpydingo@hotmail.com I think I'll look into a lemon law lawyer.

Our 2000 Jetta has had an identicle experience to this. Burning oil, airflow sensor, plus automatic windows falling and having to have part replaced several times. Right now, it burns a quart of oil in less than 1000 miles. When we brought it in to have the airflow sensor fixed, the service manager told us the burning oil was "normal," and that it was because it only holds a small amount of oil in the first place. This is a hunk of junk, and we certainly are interested in forming a class action lawsuit.

I have a 98 VW Cabrio. My Mass airflow sensor has failed twice. I am a college student who just cannot afford such a problem. My check engine light never goes off even after repairs. I could not pass emission testing this year. My car cuts off when I stop at red lights and stop signs. After doing research on the web I realized that there are several people having the same problem with their VW. What can I do about this problem? ROSE
