General Comments:

Powerful, spacious, economical, the Passat is like the perfect car.

Cheap enough tax, reasonable insurance.

Quite dear to buy used, but worth it in my opinion.

2.0 TDi packs a punch and is quiet at cruising speed. Genuine 50 MPG +.

Interior is gorgeous, well equipped and spacious, boot is huge. Exterior best in darker colors.

If you are after a reliable modern car that does everything well, you cannot go wrong with a Passat! Had mine two years with no major problems, will keep it serviced on time and it should return with continued reliability.

Faults:

Absolutely nothing but servicing and consumables!

General Comments:

This car is something else. Panoramic roof and beige leather, feels more luxurious than it is!

GT model Passat is the one to have, soo many features. Interior is just amazing and the ride is quiet and smooth. The car is amazing looking inside and out, mine has a silver exterior.

The 2.0 TDi "Blue Motion Tech" engine is fast and economical. You'll easily see 50 mpg + no matter how it is driven, and I drive fast. I had reservations about the "Adblu" system for modern diesels when I bought it, they can be expensive to repair if they go wrong. But so far mine has been OK.

They are expensive to buy and fix generally, but find a nice one and keep up with servicing and you should be OK - it will return with reliability and durability. It is otherwise hard to say anything negative about this car. The Passat has always been a family car, but feels more executive this time around.

A great modern car to own and drive!

Faults:

Other than maintenance parts and servicing over the last 4 years, basically nothing.

General Comments:

This has been a car that I bought when it was only a year old and has returned with excellent reliability over the last 4 years. Keep up the servicing on these cars and you have a winner.

GT spec has the panoramic roof option which is stunning on a nice day. I have half leather, all electric options. Best interior I have ever sat in. Seats are supportive. Cabin is spacious.

2.0 TDi is fast and yes 60 + miles per gallon is possible, calculated accurately by myself and not just using the trip computer. Expect only mid 50's mpg or less if you do a lot of short journeys however or town driving.

The car handles brilliantly. If I had to complain about something it would be the electronic button for the handbrake - my previous car had this is well and I am still not used to them after all this time! 40 + years of driving just has that mechanical lever ingrained into my mind, I hate to use anything else.

Minor points aside however, the Passat is about as good as it gets if you want a luxury family/executive saloon that can last a long time. Taxi driver friend of mine has an older Passat (2014 model previous generation to this one), with 220K on it still going strong, mine should do the same!

Faults:

Not counting tyres and brake pads as they are wear and tear you would expect with any car. Basically no major faults. Wouldn't expect anything less on a low mileage modern car. Full service history is a must as with any car, do not buy one that has missed anything.

General Comments:

The Modern Passat has all the things you would expect. Always liked these, used Passat's as a private car for work and leisure for years, cannot fault them. Just very functional and does the job. Some would say boring, but give me reliability any day.

My only regret is not going for the 2.0 TDi. It is a faster engine with decent economy. This 1.6 TDi can do between 60 and 70 mpg which is wonderful, but I feel a little under powered for a car of this size.

Interior is absolutely gorgeous and has all the electronic equipment you would expect, SE Business model is mid range I believe. Exterior is dark blue with nice alloy wheels, really looks great.

Had this a while now and plan to keep it long term; my previous Passat's managed in excess of 100,000 miles with no major issues; this should be no different if I take care of it.

Faults:

All the buttons on the steering wheel stopped working, requiring a replacement 'module'.

Also the LCD display in the centre console would periodically refuse to turn on, although the next time you drove it, it would spring into life.

The petrol cap flap wouldn't also click shut.

General Comments:

A nice car, and driving it on the electric motor was particularly enjoyable due to the silence and quick acceleration from rest. Performance below 80mph was very good, with lots of acceleration which easily overwhelmed the front tyres - it really needed 4WD.

Battery range was supposed to be 32 miles, but the best I ever saw was 26 miles on a warmish day whilst driving fairly sedately with no air con on. In the winter with the heater and air con to demist the windows, I once got down to 9 miles range. On the motorway it average about 40 MPG or so.

This was a company car, and I wouldn't buy one myself as it was expensive and had few electrical gremlins, which I would worry would get worse with age, after the warranty had expired.

It made sense for me to have it at the time, as it saved me a load of company car tax due to the low emissions figure, but I am not sure it makes sense for a private buyer unless you can run it just on the electric power, which is difficult since the range is poor and you seem to be always charging it up.
