1975 Volvo 244 GL 2.2 petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Outstanding engineering, light years ahead of its time!

Faults:

New starter motor at 250,000 km.

Water pump leaking.

General Comments:

I purchased this car as emergency transport when our 940 wagon was written off in an accident.

For $200AU, I figured I didn't have much to lose as I couldn't hire a car for that!

It is built like a tank, runs well, handles OK despite no power steering, and is in very good condition for its age. It is very comforting to have our children (21 & 19) driving around in it; God help anyone they hit!

You can't go wrong for $200! I got a 244 dl from the same year in 2005 as a uni car and she's going VERY well! I'm keeping her now.

1975 Volvo 244 DL 2.1 CARB from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Retro Head Turning Tank!!!

Faults:

Stromberg carb faults.

Welding required (But she is 32 years old!!!)

General Comments:

Bought this car as a non runner requiring some welding for £77!!!

Spent last summer welding and spraying, she looks great now.

Traced non running to cam belt which had skipped 3 teeth!!! - Non interference engine, so no damage. New cam belt on and she fired into life!!!

Stromberg carb is rubbish and needs keeping an eye on.

Body panels are tricky to get, mechanicals no problem.

This car is a true testament of the durability of older Volvo's.

1975 Volvo 244 DL B21E from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

You beauty!

Faults:

Heater tap needed replacement.

Carpet needed to be replaced as it fell apart.

New ceiling installed as the old one collapsed.

Had to install air conditioning.

Needed rear window regulator replaced.

Otherwise no major work has been needed in the time I have had it.

General Comments:

The car is a very reliable and comfortable way to travel. Would be better with power steering and this is possible with the wide range of parts which fit the car during the time it was manufactured. The car handles like it's on rails.
