2001 Volvo C70 Convertible 2.4L gasoline from North America

Summary:

Overall great automobile that is a pleasure to own and drive

Faults:

Problem with steering / rack and pinion. Several trips to dealership car purchase from did not resolve problem. After a move to another state, the local dealership there solved the problem. Improperly installed o-rings.

Front disc caliper wouldn't fully release... repaired under warranty.

Seat leather started to wear badly at two points; one where leather covers bracket that attaches front seat back to lower seat cushion, second on driver's side bolster / poor design. Volvo wouldn't cover.

General Comments:

Beautiful design overall... received compliments where ever I went.

Good performance from turbo charged engine yet reasonable fuel economy.

Extremely comfortable interior.

Only design flaw is the tilt / telescopic steering wheel control... it is friction type located at base of steering column... similar to one found on a car with a window sticker one-quarter of that of the Volvo C70 convertible. Not in keeping with the other vehicles in this class / price point.

I think the first generation C70 convertible is a beautiful car.

I test drove one and really liked it. The sound system was great. The seats are very comfortable. It had a few creaks here & there, but it is a convertible & had 50k on the clock.

I didn't buy it because this particular vehicle's check engine light was on, and I didn't want to take a chance.

If not for that, I would've grabbed it!

2001 Volvo C70 2.4 t Coupe 2.4 lpt from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A sheer delight to drive, I never want to get out of it.

Faults:

The sunroof tends to make excessive noise when traveling at speeds in excess of 40 mph.

Also, when it rains the sunroof makes a strange popping sound.

General Comments:

The car is a serious head turner. It has drop dead gorgeous looks and appears a lot younger than its 5 years would suggest.

Excellent paintwork with a very deep glossy shine complemented by a top class beige leather interior, this motor belies its age and looks every bit the executive coupe GT Tourer.

Driving the car is a sheer delight. The steering is both responsive and accurate. The vehicle feels as though it hugs those bends without any problems whatsoever. The Light Pressure Turbo assists the car to a speed of 60 mph in a shade over 8.0 seconds delivering the power from the 2400cc engine smoothly with very little lag or juddering through the automatic gearbox.

The stereo system should satisfy everyones needs with a 3-CD changer, Cassette and Stereo combined in the fascia with the option to play music in Dolby Pro-Logic or surround sound piped through nine speakers. The clarity of which will astound even the most pessimistic of drivers.

In summary, even with the annoying wind noise from the sunroof (which I'm hoping will be remedied by the dealer) this vehicle surpasses my expectations. I have no hesitation in recommending these fabulous cars to any prospective Volvo C70 buyer. Test drive the car and let the car do the talking not the salesperson.
