1998 Volvo S40 1.8 SE GDI review from UK and Ireland
"Good car, but buy an automatic V40 1.8 GDI instead!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
New brakes pads.
Squeaky clutch.
Sticky gear change.
Squeaky fan belt.
General comments?
Bought this car to handle my long commute to work and its great fuel consumption which was near a good diesel well done Mitsubishi for the GDI engine!
Trouble was that it had dodgy Renault parts (i.e gearbox) so the gear change was annoying sticking in third, and first gear was hard to find to.
Leather seats and cabin were excellent and the build quality plus refinement were good.
Hates corners and its not fun to punt around in, but there again it's a Volvo!
If only details such as handling and gearbox were improved would be a great car!
