2010 Volvo XC90 AWD 3.2 from North America

Faults:

Nothing at all :)

General Comments:

I'm not sure what to write about this car; I test drove it twice (2nd time had it for ~2 hours) so I completely knew how the car drove. I also knew the MPG etc, and for sure the styling is subjective.

Aside from these, the long distance comfort and reliability are 2nd to none. If the windshield fluid could be added from outside, I would never see under the hood :)

If your 3.2 XC90 stalls due to the alternator not charging, see this video

I'm linking two DIY tutorials showing how to replace the thermostat and the water pump on the 3.2 engine - same as on some XC70. These two items fail prematurely and rather all of a sudden, and can cause engine damage (overheating or belt snap) if not replaced as soon as they make problems - use only quality parts, ask on forums which are the brands to trust - really don't let mechanics put in random inexpensive parts.

2010 Volvo XC90 R-Design V8 from South Africa

Summary:

A real brute

Faults:

Sat nav not working.

General Comments:

I just got this car last month brand new off the showroom floor. It's in a gorgeous sparkling grey. It's a bit too new to know if it will hold up in the years to come, but so far I love it.

The V8 engine matched with the 6 speed auto gearbox is extremely powerful, and has a fantastic roar to it.

The R-Design is very upmarket and luxurious, with every conceivable extra.

Be aware of the expensive balance shaft problem with these V8 engines on early production years. Here's a link showing the problem https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=87848&start=10
