Wolseley 24/80. The forgotten classic
Rust in the floor, lots of bushes in the column shift linkage, and the suspension need replacing for a roadworthy.
I'm surprised no-one else has reviewed one of these Australasian(?) classics.
I had already had a 1964 24/80 MK2, which I had for about a year. An auto, it was comfortable, albeit sluggish. For some reason the speedo kept failing; I replaced the cable twice.
My 63 MK1 was a revelation compared to the above. The 3 speed manual made the car so much more lively; it had the original valve radio (working) and leather seats. I like the styling of the MK1 better with the pointy fins.
The 24/80 is a Aussie elaboration of the 15/60. A B series engine with two extra cylinders to make it the "Blue Streak Six".
I loved this car; it was so nice to sit in with a woody dash and all of the above. The all drum brakes needed to be respected. Otherwise, it was bulletproof.
In some financial difficulty, I sold this car to a Yarra Valley chef. Afterwards, I regretted it.
