Head blew up, top of the piston came off, broke the oil rings. Although it hadn't been running for five years! Note to put some diesel down the bore before starting an engine that has sat for a long time.
The column change broke.
Really cool car, but far too expensive to run.
This person obviously doesn't have a great deal of knowledge about Valiant nor any other classic cars.
I find it hard to believe you broke a chrysler motor in such a big way, as far as I know the valiant engine is as tough as nails and can take a boot-full of abuse..
I owned a 1970 vg valiant for the past 7 years in that time I only replaced tyres, batteries, point, plugs, and an alternator. You could not ask for a better more reliable car even in 0 degree frosts (tassie weather) it would start first go. Even though heavy on petrol/oil it was a fun car to be in. upgraded to a scorpion (still a valiant almost) but still would not let a bad word be said about the old val. I also have owned a vf 225 slant, vg 2 door 245 all fantastic cars.
What sort of abuse did you put this engine through?
I have never seen a Chrysler motor destruct like that, especially the slant 6. I had a friend floor the gas pedal in his /6 truck with a brick. They left it and came back to find the engine dead, but only because it was out of gas. They added more and started right up again. Either you or a previous owner must've been VERY hard on that car.
No such thing as 1969 valiant ranger. The ranger name was adopted in 1971 when the VH was released.
I have owned valiants for over 30 years not a better car on the road.
I have 1969 Valiant Regal Safari with the 225 Slant motor. My family have had Valiants all our life, and these cars are indestructible and will run forever, even when poorly maintained. Engine is very thirsty, but has lots of torque at low RPM for cruising :)
I love them all.
