Super charger hesitates when cold.
The police officers see me and automatically turn on their lights.
In the rain it handles really well, the wipers are set up weird. Also in the rain it spins the tires too easily.
It's not very fun racing a Mustang or Camaro cause I always win.
If you are looking for a fast, comfortable car this is it. I have money and I chose this after numerous test drives. I still have a Diablo and normally would rather drive the GTP, unless it's in the shop.
If you don't have a lot of extra money, don't buy this car.
Get ready to pay some hefty tickets.
1996 Pontiac Grand Prix's did not have a supercharger. We all wish they did but the only supercharged Grand Prix's are the next generation 1997 to present with a supercharged 3.8 Liter, not 3.4 Liter.
That last comment is wrong. The 96 and even the 95 models have a supercharger. They are great cars.
Two main problems are the starter motor which is too small for the engine, and the brakes on all GM W cars are not that great. Don't get me wrong though, I'd certainly recommend one.
Who ever wrote the second comment on this is a fool. only 97+ Grand prix GTP's have superchargers. Nothing before then.
I drive a 1998 Grand Prix GTP and the only person that has been able to beat me is a Corvette with a 427 big block, so I agree with the first guy. They are the best and fastest American cars!
First off, as early as 1991 Pontiac was putting turbos in their Grand Prix's. Second, ALL GTP's or STE are turbo, while a few GTP's received the Supercharger. And in 1995, Pontiac dropped the Supercharger in ALL 3.4L GTP's. Here's on site to back this up, I can't find the other, but it is true. Owner is correct.

Wow so get your fracts straight before you post; or just save your fingers the work and all of us the aggrovation and don't type!
Here's a correction for all the wrong comments, 1989-1990 there were a few turbo 3.1 grand prix's, the only STE's that were turbo were some of the 1990 year models (first year for any 4-door W-body), 1991, GM created the 3.4 DOHC V6 for the Lumina Z34, Grand Prix GTP, and Cutlass Supreme. In it's run from 91-97, the 3.4 DOHC was never offered with turbo or supercharging. Since the 1989-90 Turbo grand prix, there was no form of turbo W-Body car until the 1997 Grand Prix GTP/97 Buick Regal GS.
The first grand prix turbo was created in 1989. They where made for 2 years, that means only in 1989 and 1990. They where known as tgp (turbo grand prix). They generated about 225 Hp, but the prototype generated 300 so it's easy to increase performance on these models. However there were only about 6,000 of these make each year. From 1991 to 1996 they are known as GTP's (Grand touring performance). This generation was powered by a DOHC 24 Valve 3.4 litter V6. This generated about 215 Hp. In 1997 the grandprix got it's wide track back. Avalible with a 3.1 (195 Hp) 3.8 (205 Hp) or a 3.8 with a blower on it (240 Hp). In 2004 the two door modle was droped and replaced by the GTO. The for door still runs a 3.8 and 3.8 superchaged now makeing 260 Hp.
I'm thinking of getting a 1996 grand prix. please give me some feed back on this vehicle. it has 80,000 miles on it... no problems though. let me know what you think! you can email me at hevnlytemptress@hotmail.com with comments!
I cannot speak to '95 or earlier, but I happen to be in the process of buying a 1996 Grand Prix GTP which has a Supercharger. So Most of the earlier comments on that subject are incorrect. While I do not yet own this car, I have known the person who owns it since he bought it, so I am certain of the details of the car. It is a 1996 GTP with a 3.8L Supercharged engine. (It also has upgraded front discs, beefier sway bars, stiffer springs, and a smaller supercharger pulley to make it spin faster)
I have no clue as to where everyone is getting this info on 95 and 96 GP GTP's. But seriously everyone needs to get it right. I am a GM certified technician, have been for a while. And they have never had 96 GTP's with 3.4s to have the supercharger. Bonnevilles and a few Buick models had the 3800 supercharger, but not a 3.4. GM has never had a 3.4 that was supercharged or turbocharged.
I have two 1996 Grand Prix; one is an SE Coupe with a 3.1 and the other is a GTP with a 3.4. A 1997 Grand Prix can have a build date of up to five months before 1997, which could make it seem like it's a 1996, but it isn't. People need to check their titles. But Grand Prix are great cars; don't get rid of them.
This may be too late for you people. But I just picked up a 1996 Grand Prix GTP from the original owner, and I have everything from the dealer, and the supercharger was not avalable til 1997+. However superchargers were able to be put in as an aftermarket, not from the dealer.
