The transmission went out at 140K miles. It cost a little over $950.00 for a rebuild.
The engine threw a rod at 161K miles. My mechanic can't find a used or re-manufactured engine in our area. The closest one he can find is in Colorado (we're in Georgia) and will cost $2200.00. The dealership wanted $4000.00 for the parts alone with another $600.00 in labor.
Despite the fact that the big things with this vehicle are big and costly I miss my Amigo. All in all it was a great little SUV.
It was extremely reliable and didn't kill me financially with lots of "little things" constantly breaking down.
When I was the primary driver I rarely had a moments trouble with my Amigo, but once my husband started driving it we were rushing headlong toward the end of its lifespan.
Georgia in the summer is HOT and in town driving meant turning the air conditioner off when I had to sit for longer than a red light (i.e. drive through window).
My biggest complaint is that parts are extremely high and most of them have to be ordered from the dealer (which explains the extremely high part).
Your truck threw a rod because you did not adjust them didn't you read that in the manual?
Whaaaaaaaaaaat? The rod she is referring to is the piston connecting rod. Common reasons for "throwing a rod" is over revving, lack of proper lubrication (due to oil pump failure), or just worn out.
Most common cause of rods being thrown is letting oil level get too low or not doing oil and filter changes frequently.
With proper maintenance, modern engines should go to 200,000+ miles with no major problems.
This review is lacking in information as to the cause.
My amigo has over 227500 miles on it and still goin strong.
