The first thing that went on the car since I had it was the oil system. After owning the car for about 1 1/2 years every time I stopped the oil gage went up and down drastically, and there was no pressure in the system. I had to tap on the pedal continuously while waiting at traffic lights. After that the brakes decided to fall apart. Theres nothing like getting read to go to school in the morning for a big lab and hearing loud metal scraping in your wheel wells. Then the thing started leaking coolant, and from where I could not seem to find. I assumed it was a head gasket that went bad. The transmission was always two steps behind the pedal and made a loud "clunk" every time I put it in drive. The headliner in the interior had to be held up with thumbtacks.
The car was however over 10 years old when I got it and driven by an elderly person before my wild driving. The performance of the 3.1 was actually very very nice when the car was working. The interior, besides the falling headliner was very comfortable. The most comfortable car I have ever been in. Lots of space and not too crowded or "over designed". It made it through 3 years of my crazy driving before it started going haywire so I got to give it some credit for the price I paid.
Hey steve, I too am a student that has been blessed with the opportunity to own an 84 buick regal limited. everything that happened to your car happened to mine, even the headliner. (I used a staple gun though)
Gotta love the 84 buick
By the way do your indicator lights come on randomly?
Frank.
Your oil gauge was probably just broken if your "oil system" went your motor would surely grenade, and pumping the gas at a light? sounds like fuel troubles to me.
